I heard that tightening too tight the wheel lugs can deform the rotors. If you have a garage, this is probably handy to have anyway.

Tightening wheel lugs too tight is probably not too much of a concern if you're doing it by hand.

However, what can cause deformation is uneven torquing. Which is a real possibility if you're doing by hand.

Thanks for this deal, I may pick up one of the smaller ones for engine and drivetrain components.

Yup. tighten lugs in an X pattern you have 4, or in a star pattern if you have more.

My old Craftsman torque wrench broke after a few years. That is, the adjustment ring didn't seem to have any impact on the actual setting anymore, you could still turn bolts with it though.

You also want to torque fasteners down like this:

- torque each fastener to 1/3 of torque value
- torque each fastener to 2/3 of torque value
- torque each fastener to within 10 ft/lb of spec
- torque each fastener to specified value

from what I've read at slickdeals (after posting here), these have 90 day warranty only. some hode depot (Husky?) torque wrenches are cheaper and have livetime warranty.

Also it seems to be important to set this back to minimum torque once done. if you leave it set at high value, it will weaken and not be calibrated anymore.

read more at slickdeals. as always YMMV.

Yeah, these are not covered by the lifetime guarantee for hand tools, I think because they have moving parts.

ratchets and ratcheting box wrenches have moving parts and they are covered by the lifetime warranty. But torque wrenches are far easier to abuse and break.
