I have two RePlayTV's (with Lifetime subscriptions) and will really miss the convenience they provide.

"The ReplayTV Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) Service will be permanently discontinued on July 31, 2011. After this date, owners of ReplayTV DVR units will still be able to manually record analog TV programs, but will not have the benefit of access to the interactive program guide. Effective immediately, monthly billing for the ReplayTV service to remaining customers has been suspended.
The industry conversion to HDTV is complete and ReplayTV DVRs are unable to take advantage of the wealth of HDTV programming. Please contact your service provider for current offerings."

I have two, as well, and got a lot of use out of them for years. One in the living room and one in the bedroom networked.
I really loved my Replays, but since the conversion to broadcast digital have migrated to a Mac Mini HTPC solution which includes EyeTV.

Yea, saw the news on my screen last night. :-(
I immediately went to AVSForum.com and PlanetReplay.com and it seems that there are some cludged together solutions.
I hope they release the encryption, so that someone can do a workable easy solution.
It has been a good run. I am upset, but I guess I got a lot of use out of mine. The auto commercial skip still rocks!!!

Many forum discussions on how to use WiRNS to replace the RePlay servers. I'm looking into Parallels or Crossover to solve the issue as a Mac user.

My two are 5040's upgraded with 300 GB hard drives (from the original 40.) No high def, of course, but they still do what I originally wanted from them. I will probably go with a TiVo for the HD rather than go the WiRNS route. I'll really miss the commercial advance.

I just got emails from two of my friends to whom I recycled my RTVs when I moved to TiVo HD a few years ago. They are stricken. One may be able to do with WiRNS as she's a PC-er, but the other friends are Mac users. In neither case are they computer savvy, so I don't think I'll even mention the WiRNS alternative or I'll be stuck with implementation and maintenance. I have more than enough of that now without adding something new for them to call me about. It was great while it lasted. I started with a ShowStopper.
