Wise move 10.5.6 to 10.5.8? - Surfrider - 06-19-2011 I just update i-Tones, now it's telling me to update Safari 3.1.2 to the newest version to get to the i-Tines store. But that requites 10.5.8. Any disadvantages to this? I forget (old farts disease) how to do this w/out wiping all my crap out, I don't want a clean install I don't think. Thanks for helping a doddering old fool... Re: Wise move 10.5.6 to 10.5.8? - GGD - 06-19-2011 Just download the 10.5.8 combo update and install, shouldn't wipe out anything, it's just an update to your existing OS, not a totally new version. Re: Wise move 10.5.6 to 10.5.8? - freeradical - 06-19-2011 I'd imagine that 10.5.8 fixes a lot of security issues. Just do it. Re: Wise move 10.5.6 to 10.5.8? - mstudio - 06-19-2011 It's all good, just download the combo updater from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL866 Install, then go to your Software Update under the Apple in the menu bar to see if anything else is available. You should be fine. Good luck. Re: Wise move 10.5.6 to 10.5.8? - Jimmypoo - 06-20-2011 Then you have to catch up to Safari 5.x Re: Wise move 10.5.6 to 10.5.8? - BernDog - 06-20-2011 If you're not the type of user who would have a specific reason not to update (to keep it simple, I'll just say that if this is you, you'll know it), just do all the updates that software updates reccomends. Have an external drive set up as a time machine backup, and you'll be covered in any event besides fire or other natural disaster. Re: Wise move 10.5.6 to 10.5.8? - Surfrider - 06-20-2011 Thanks for the help gang, I appreciate it. Re: Wise move 10.5.6 to 10.5.8? - Ted King - 06-20-2011 Like usual, you should make a fresh backup with Carbon Copy or Super Duper just before running the combo updater, on the small chance that there is a problem, you can easily revert to 10.5.6. I updated to 10.5.8 on my Mac Pro as soon as it came out and it was rock solid (I never even bothered to upgrade to Snow Leopard). The chances of you having a problem with the update are slim, IMHO. Re: Wise move 10.5.6 to 10.5.8? - BernDog - 06-20-2011 Oh, fer cryin' out loud...you people and your combo updates. Software Update is fine for just about everyone other than the paranoid types. Keep a backup. Stay up to date on the updates. Done. |
