Needed a router. Got this. - lipskidder - 06-20-2011 So some kid I won't mentioned spilled water on our old but reliable Belkin. I needed something fast so I got this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Netgear-N600-Wireless-Dual-Band-Router/15539745 Anyone have any comments on this or something I should have got instead? It cost $80. Our Belkin was a clearance item from MicroCenter at least 6 years ago and was only a "g". I am using this for a 2 level home with 2 laptops and a PS3 with Netflix. I didn't want to spend that much but I figured I needed an "n" eventually and didn't want crap. I got it at Walmart and noticed Best Buy carried the same one for the same price. Didn't have "gigabit" on this one so i don't even know if that matters. Re: Needed a router. Got this. - Buzz - 06-20-2011 It looks freaking cool as hell, so that's worth something whether it works or not. I gotta believe just about anything these days will handle your stated needs, so as long as it works, you're probably OK. If you're not gonna have a bunch of machines talking to each other over ethernet, then gigabit is moot. Sure is cool looking. Enjoy. /// Re: Needed a router. Got this. - deckeda - 06-20-2011 Looks like you got a dual band: good. Put any faster n devices on their own radio band so that any of the g devices don't slow down the n stuff. (Or was that only a concern between b and g devices?) Or if you're just surfing/streaming and not doing large file transfers between things on your LAN ignore everything i said. Re: Needed a router. Got this. - kd - 06-20-2011 I've had very good luck with Netgear routers. I've bought several for myself, friends and family, with never a problem, and they never seem to need rebooting. Re: Needed a router. Got this. - lipskidder - 06-20-2011 Thanks for the comments. It's working good so far and was easy to set up although there is not a lot of documentation with it. The lighted circle on the side I still don't know what it does but it flickers as if it's working doing something. You can push it and it turns off and everything still works fine. Someday I will "follow the wire" and see where it goes. lol |
