I filed my first trademark today! - JPK - 07-11-2011
I am working on a little side project and have decided to trademark the brand. I filed for a trademark registration on it and was notified the application will get looked at in about 3 months, but could take a year or longer.
It seems like they are more efficient at taking my money! The $275 fee doesn't take 3 months for them to collect - it went right on my credit card!

Be happy they took your money right away. I filed to renew a Federal license back in Feb (due to expire in Mar). Somehow, the application went "missing". Because I could show I had been charged, they were on the hook to locate my paperwork (the credit card# was on the application and, I had checked the box "Issue Letter of Authority" to continue legal operation until my license arrived). Several phone calls and, several more weeks of waiting and, I finally have my license. If they hadn't charged me, it would have been easy to make it my fault.

trademark filings have a period for review and challenge... those with non-filed, but common law marks as well as those with similar or same marks (in other or similar fields) all get time to make a challenge on mark. Standard process and relatively efficient. Congrats btw!
