Create a web page - what's the best way for a home/small business user? - olnacl - 07-12-2011 It's for a friend of mine who's a realtor and wants a web page with contact info - nothing fancy, but she'd like to modify it periodically to reflect current listings and sales with pictures of property. She's a professional writer so understands basic page design, but would want something to do the web page creation and hosting. Some sort of Paint by Numbers kind of thing. Is there anything software/plan you'd recommend that she could use for this purpose. In the good old days, I'd have said subscribe to dot Mac and build your own (she has a Macbook that's running XP in Boot Camp). I'm really out of touch with "social networking" so looking for good advice from fellow forum-ites to pass along. Thanks! Re: Create a web page - what's the best way for a home/small business user? - Seacrest - 07-12-2011 Most of the realtors I know let some outfit handle that for them. For instance, if they're affiliated with Coldwell Banker, CB has web tools that lets their agents show their listings, the listings in their office and so on. She should check with her agency, or with NAR resources to get started. Anybody who sets out to handle their own static "web page design" these days is just asking for trouble, IMO. She should get some basic web hosting and have someone help her set up a Wordpress site. Once it is set up, she will probably find it relatively easy to update. A friend wanted to me to do that and I couldn't without the risk of getting him fired and/or sued and getting myself sued. I think someone else got sued due to my inquiry. In this area, property listing data is owned by the MLS. They control what websites it goes on. As part of a broker's access to the MLS, they agree not to post the data anywhere outside of the MLS. Your friend has to abide by the broker's agreement.
