Boy do I love this film. And after watching it for the gazillionth time, I was wondering who did Rod Steiger's singing (Poor Jud is Dead) and was I ever surprised to see he did his own singing!
What a fine voice!
Just a quick note if you like this film, have you see the Trevor Nunn British production starring Hugh Jackman? I tell you, that man can do no wrong. I prefer the 1950s film version but Jackman made a great Curly. I'd love to see him in the Boy from Oz.

I :hail: "Oklahoma!" I'm also a big Rod Steiger fan. When I watch that movie I have to watch Burt Lancaster and Katherine Hepburn in "The Rainmaker," and my favorite of favorite's, Doris Day and Howard Keel in "Calamity Jane."

Oh, and Hugh Jackman is an actor of considerable range. I've not seen his version however, but I'll bet he rocked in it.

Did the musical about 20 or so years ago and threatened to have the cast spell Oklahoma wrong at the end if the producer didn't stop complaining about the cost of the sets. He folded like a bingo chair.

.....'Guys & Dolls'......they basically pieced Brando's voice together.....they said that he could NEVER get 1 decent take.....so they had to piece together different takes to make it work (or so I hear)......

Family story about Gordon MacRae -- my grandfather on my mother's side was very good friends with MacRae. My mom was one of seven (!) sisters, and once MacRae came over and sang Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin to the young ladies, who all swooned like crazy. My mom was 14 at the time, and she told MacRae she wanted to be an actress. He said, "Well, when you turn 16, you head out to Los Angeles, and you can live with me until you get your break." My grandmother wasn't thrilled with that offer, let me tell you (and mom never made it into acting...)/

Wow, I just looked, I don't have Calamity Jane. Howard Keel's another voice I just love.
Kiss Me Kate, I'm no fan of Kathryn Grayson, but Howard Keel, Ann Miller (stupendous) Keenan Wynn, James Whitmore. Wow.
Then there's Bob Fosse and that great Carole Haney in their short solo in From This Moment On. Wow, what a pair.
I think Cole Porter wrote the best music and lyrics ever.

That was a great moment. Had to be monumentally exciting. I wish you mom could have given it a shot.
