Navy Seal Team 6 tragedy - Grace62 - 08-06-2011 http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Asia-South-Central/2011/0806/Helicopter-crash-kills-dozens-in-Afghanistan-implications-for-US-war-effort It isn't known yet what brought down this chinook, and whether it's an isolated event or a new phase in that war where NATO enemies have this new level of anti-aircraft fire power. 25 members of Navy Seal Team 6 were killed in this crash - along with other US and Afghan troops. Revenge attack? Very sad day. Re: Navy Seal Team 6 tragedy - cbelt3 - 08-06-2011 It will be broadcast as a revenge attack, but The Teams are heavily involved in missions all over Afghanistan... they've become the primary spec-ops team over there. Keep in mind that SEAL Teams number several hundred sailors in each team, and there are at least 6 (I believe there is a SEAL Team 7) teams. A heavy loss, but... Fight on. Re: Navy Seal Team 6 tragedy - rjmacs - 08-06-2011 I think it's unlikely that the attackers in this incident knew that the helicopter was carrying SEAL Team 6 members, but in this war every attack is framed as 'revenge' for earlier strikes. If you're fighting NATO forces in Afghanistan and you have an opportunity to shoot down a fully loaded transport flight, you take it no matter who is on board. Re: Navy Seal Team 6 tragedy - Grace62 - 08-06-2011 "SEAL Team 6" and DEVGRU are just the nicknames for the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group. It became officially operational in 1981." Re: Navy Seal Team 6 tragedy - Mac1337 - 08-06-2011 This was not a "NATO" helicopter. There were no "NATO" troops killed either. Even in death we can't shake off the PC crap. Re: Navy Seal Team 6 tragedy - rjmacs - 08-06-2011 Dakota wrote: You would prefer "ISAF" helicopter and "ISAF" troops? That's fine, too. Of course, NATO commands and controls ISAF. It's not 'PC' to use accurate terms; it's just accurate. Re: Navy Seal Team 6 tragedy - cbelt3 - 08-06-2011 Uhmm... Dakota... the US is a member of NATO... Remember ? North Atlantic Treaty Organization ? Created as a mutual defense organization against the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact ? Re: Navy Seal Team 6 tragedy - Mac1337 - 08-06-2011 Correction: THe US is NATO. This is all a charade. Americans are fighting and dying there in American equipment. Let's have the decency to call them who they are once last time. Danes are sitting around eating pastry. Stop fooling yourself and don't throw the book at me. Everybody knows what is going on. |
