Don't try and overclock it?

Avoid MRIs. Bring paperwork when you go to the airport.

And above all, stay healthy!

Good luck.

My dad has one (very long history of heart disease/surgeries.) They put it in 7 years ago. Procedure itself was very easy as was his recovery. Just remember you have it when going through security scanners. If you carry a medication card or have an ID bracelet, mention it on there so emergency medical people know.

They had originally given him a 10 year "warranty" on the hardware but at his last visit with his cardiologist, he said the current one will need to be replaced in the next 12-18 months so just shy of 10 years.

Wishing you a smooth procedure and hoping yours works as well as his does- it has done wonders!

Get the deluxe model

Good luck. Don't get the Android model, or you'll end up looking like "Mr. Data".

Have a co-worker who is on his third Pacemaker. The last one is a combined Pacemaker / Defibrillator. He's in his early 60's, and has been fighting congestive heart failure since he was in his teens. He did have the 'lead' issue where they had to go back and replug it in internally.

The site of the implant will be pretty sore too, and keep your eye open for post-surgical infection and etcetera. And good luck, and welcome to a longer life with a more regular beat !

Mine's will be installed next Tuesday. The cardiologist said to avoid MRI's and arc welders. Also said to avoid having power tools too close to the pacemaker when using them. I asked about microwave ovens and he said they are not a problem these days.

Almost forgot to mention that I will be 72 in November. Had a porcine aortic valve replacement and triple bypass in May 2009. Came out of that OK.

Good luck Go To Top. I'll be looking for a progress report from you before I go in for mine.
