Is there a way to get Zap2It to work with EyeTV? - PeterB - 09-03-2011

I was never able to get the EPG to work with TV Guide-- I'm guessing it's because my one-year trial ended, and I'm not going to shell out the $20 for the subscription. It's silly because I can get listings free from Zap2It or TitanTV, so why can't you get one of these to work with EyeTV?

I don't know about Zap2It, but support for TitanTV was explicitly removed from the EyeTV software a few updates back. So the hooks in the software to read the TitanTV data are gone. In theory I guess you could have an additional app that used the data from Zap2It or TitanTV and controlled EyeTV with AppleScript. But I have not heard of anyone doing that.

As for the subscription, I have bought two EyeTV 250 Plus boxes. I used one serial number to get the free year of TV Guide for the EPG, but found so little use for it that I have not even bothered trying to find the second serial number to register that for another year after expiration last month. I just did not find it that useful, even if free.

I am almost 100% sure that at someo point (in the last 6 months), I configured the software that came with my EyeTV Hybrid to check TitanTV (it's in the EyeTV prefs. on my system). I then went to the TitanTV web page, logged in, and selected a show to record. It downloaded some kind of file (had an extension I'd never seen), and when I went back into EyeTV, I had it "check TitanTV for updates" (or something like that), and the show I had selected to record was then in my EyeTV recording schedule.

I need to do some more testing of this, but is it not supposed to work this way any longer?

Using TitanTV from the web site still is supposed to work, they removed support to use it for the integrated Program Guide inside the EyeTV app. See the announcement here: http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=4055.

:agree:

Just tried it, and it's working for me (with EyeTV v3.5.3)

SDGuy et al., yes, I can use TitanTV to record particular shows. But I can't it to work with EyeTV's EPG, is that what you've been able to do?

You mean being able to see the programming guide within EyeTV without a subscription? I don't think that's possible anymore. The TitanTV website is a good enough workaround - when my TVGuide subscription expires, I'm probably going to just rely on the website myself.
