Steve did the Baja 1000 by himself on a dirtbike. My portrait photography instructor used to road race cars with Steve, James Garner, Paul Newman and Roddy McDowell back in the late 50s through the 60s. Paul had to enter with a different assumed name every race because the studios forbade him to take chances with his safety.
James Garner did his own driving for the Rockford Files. Roddy collected Jaguar rallye cars.

I don't know about any of that other stuff, other than Mert Lawwill told me that McQueen was a fun guy to hang out with and was genuinely fast at times. His kid looks a lot like him. That photo of him on that site looks like SMQ when he made the F1 film.

Best line from Dust to Glory is when Bruce Brown's kid asks Andretti, 'Well, what'd you think?" and Andretti smiles and says, "Well, what did you think?".

Looks like his dad, even with the shades.
McQueen impressed me, driving that Mustang in Bullit and the old bike in The Great Escape.
