New Pacemaker is Ticking - mjgkramer - 09-08-2011

Following Go To Top's lead, I had a pacemaker installed on Tuesday. Arrived home yesterday after noon and am now going to spend two weeks relaxing. Main restrictions for those two weeks are no vigorous activity and no raising left arm above the shoulders (pacemaker is on that side). The major concern besides possible infection is pulling the wires loose where they are screwed into the inner wall of the heart chambers.

The reason I needed the ticker helper was that my heart was from time to time missing a beat. When that happened I would experience brief dizziness. The cardiologist said the condition would get worse with time and I could eventually have a heart attack or pass out while doing something dangerous like driving.

The pacemaker is supposedly about the size of a silver dollar and was installed under the skin above my left collar bone. Wires were threaded from it through a major vein into the heart. The ends of the leads have tiny screws similar to the screw on a wine bottle corkscrew that are screwed into the inner wall of the heart chambers.

Here is a link to a page describing the gadget. I do not know which one I have but will find out next week when I go in to see the cardiologist.

Hi, good to hear about your pacemaker. I find no improvement yet. Mine was done on 9/1. Get my bandage removed today. Mine is like a silver German pocket watch.

Congrats to both of you. With a little technology, you can live a lot longer. Awesome !

Be sure, however, to avoid EMP incidents.

Be well, indeed.

Good luck with your new toys guys! Hope you don't need to use Apple Care.

They were iPacemakers, weren't they?
