Tire Recommendations for Toyota RAV 4 1996 - kap - 09-12-2011
Followed the recommendations here my aunt purchased the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S for her Honda CRV 2000-1. She couldn't be happier. Now it's my wife's RAV 4. What would be a good set of 4. Her sister gifted her a $500 check :-)

Assuming you do not use it for 4wd in snow, this looks decent...
Set of 4 $412 AVID TOURING-S
If the RAV can take wider tires, there is a larger selection for 235/65-16. It is nearly the identical outside diameter.

Wife only drives her RAV 4 on surface street just like she does with her mountain bike ... it has never seen the single track nor any mountain side.

I was thinking about those AVID Touring S tires for my Sable a few years ago. They always get good reviews for a moderately priced all season road tire.

Second the Assurance. We're on a second set on my wife's Volvo Cross Country. I t came with Pirelli Scorpions and I always thought the noise was drivetrain but we replaced them with the Assurance and it was like getting a new car. Very quiet.

We owned a 1996 RAV4 when they first came out. Great car but it was an odd tire size back then! There were 2 choices of tires for that car and both were special order only. Looks like it is more standard now.
Okay, not so great...a 4 mph rear end collision totalled the car due to no back bumper + spare tire on rear door. $5000 dollars of damage in a parking lot....but it did get to 186K with almost no repairs.

My Wife's RAV 4 has nearly 400K on it. Regular oil change and tune-up do help.

Wife's 1996 RAV 4's original tires are DunLop "the Noisy".
