Mr. Coffee Burr Mill grinder, yea or nay? - AllGold - 09-12-2011

I currently have one of those silly little one-pot, pop-top grinders. I can get this locally for about thirty bucks: http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Coffee-BVMC-BMH23-Automatic-Grinder/dp/B004T6EJS0

Any reason not to?

Even an inexpensive burr grinder will be an improvement over the whirly-bird type of grinder, so I say Go For It!!!

Probably not a bad thing to have, but if you store your unground coffee in that bin it will go stale.

Having said that, I keep my whole bean coffee in the freezer and use a Krups blade grinder (the horror!) and a Chemex and I still notice that my coffee is really, really good. So I'm not as much of a coffee method purist as I once was.

that's an awful lot of coffee

when I fresh ground my coffee I used a little tiny grinder, just enough for two cups of coffee and put it away. Never left ground beans lying around.

I'm not drinking anywhere near as much coffee as I used to and gave up the grinder ritual.
It's in a closet somewhere.

I'm also in the camp that feels coffee should be kept sealed in the frige until ground, and only enough should be ground for that day's pot. So I'd pass on this.

Uh . . . what a strange thread on which to discover my coffee cup is broken.
(I did a major "my files" purge to post the water heater pics-- oops)

I keep my coffee air tight on the counter. I'm of the school that believes the moisture/condensation of the fridge and fluctuating temps denigrates the beans. If I was considering the Mr. Coffee, I'd probably go for a Capresso Infinity.

I like my Kitchen Aid conical burr coffee mill...

Keep my beans in the freezer and grind frozen beans as needed.

I don't think I can spare any more counter space, but I like it too.

I thought you were not supposed to freeze coffee beans. We keep ours at room temp until we grind just enough for one pot. Of course it's a burr type.
