How to format drive to share storage space between OS X and Windows? - mikebw - 10-09-2011 Not sure if this can be done without partitioning, but I have a 1TB internal drive that I have installed Windows 7 on and would like to use some of that space for file storage for use within OS X. Right now it's NTFS format which I can only read from within OS X, no write permissions, so the disk is essentially locked. I am trying to figure out if there is some alternative format that would allow for the Windows installation and for OS X write permissions at the same time. If not, I suppose I can just partition the drive. I really wish that Apple would just enable full NTFS support in OS X. Re: How to format drive to share storage space between OS X and Windows? - JoeH - 10-09-2011 Seagate bundles a copy of the Paragon software with their GoFlex drives, it worked well enough for me. Only turned it off because I decided to change the drive to HFS+. One of the other pieces of software Seagate provided was interfering with the drive waking from sleep. Re: How to format drive to share storage space between OS X and Windows? - Filliam H. Muffman - 10-09-2011 I think Apple would need to buy a license to enable OS X to write to NTFS, they generally don't like to do that and it would make Paragon's software obsolete. Maybe they should buy NTFS for Mac? The alternative is to buy Macdrive for the Win7 machine. Can OS X read EXT3 formatted drives? Wiki implies exFAT is only OS 10.6.5 and later. I am running 10.6.6 now so that should be fine. Thanks for the reference though, may come in handy some day. |
