Kelp or seaweed is a green marine plant that is used in various culinary applications. Kelp is called a "miracle plant" because of its huge therapeutic properties, kelp is the best natural source of trace minerals. Sprinkling a little on your food (about a teaspoonful twice a day) will provide both salt and vital trace minerals. It is also a good source of protein and a rich source of iodine and iron, iodine is important for the proper functioning of thyroid and iron is important for blood cell function.

It's the lack of that sort of thing in the US diet that caused us to add iodine to table salt back in the 1950's.

Haikuman,

Health benefits aside, I have to agree with John Pinette on this:

On salad: 5:58

On seaweed: 7:34

Watch the salad spot first and then fast forward to the seaweed spot. Smile

Potentially not safe for work, depending on your tolerance for mild profanity. John Pinette is pretty tame overall, though.

can't see YT at the moment.

is that the one where Pinette talks about salad being the precursor the meal, not the meal alone? funny.

MrB,

Yups! And, it includes his remarks in reference to seaweed. Very funny! One of the best comediennes out there! Smile

Too much iodine, like everything else, is also bad for you.

I love seaweed salad. When I get sushi I go through a mental exercise of deciding if I want more fish or more seaweed salad. I think I win either way.

Too Much Of Nothing

Now, too much of nothing
Can make a man feel ill at ease
One man’s temper might rise
While another man’s temper might freeze
In the day of confession
We cannot mock a soul
Oh, when there’s too much of nothing
No one has control

Say hello to Valerie
Say hello to Vivian
Send them all my salary
On the waters of oblivion
