What chemical do they use to spray? - kap - 01-28-2012
I just tossed out our soft foam bath mat after a week of usage. It permeated an awful odor that gave me a palpitation. The same odor we got when we first had our shower curtain. I am wondering if it was the same chemical used on water resistant/proof household items.

I usually hang those types of products in a uninhabited part of the house for a week or so till the out gassing stops.

more likely one of a hundred different VOC and orangutan found outgassing from some textiles (like PVC)
I bet you didn't find any ants near it !
Leaving it outside for a while might help.
Personally if I found the outgasing that bad it could gag a a maggot ( I had a bath curtain that bad) I'd throw it out.
Were there any special disposal instructions in the care and use instructions - such as : handle as hazardous waste ?

I bought a Belkin mouse pad last week that smelled awful for the first few hours of opening it. Thank goodness it didn't last. Most of the time, stuff like this doesn't bother me. This time, it was more than annoying. :eye:
And, yeah, I still use a mouse pad because my desk is glass. MacAlly mousie don't wanna work on glass, and I have several of them still new that I bought on closeout.

If it was made in China I think it's part of their slow but steady objective to poison as much of the global population as they can. Coat everything slightly with a substance that in and of itself is only slightly toxic... but as it builds up, it causes all kinds of bad effects on health.
