1st gen MacBook protective sleeve recommendations wanted - TheTominator - 02-13-2012 I have a first generation MacBook Intel Core Duo, 2GHz "MacBook1,1". I would like to purchase a form-fitting protective sleeve for it so that I can put it into my normal satchel. The satchel has plenty of compartments for all of the accessories, but it is not a padded laptop-optimized design. There is no need for the sleeve to contain anything besides the bare laptop itself. Ideally I'd like a sleeve that has some padding to protect it from incidental bumps from other items I'm carrying, but it doesn't have to be too protective since I am careful with my gear. I'd like the sleeve to have a fold-over closure with velcro instead of a zipper. Does anybody know of a commercial sleeve that fits the bill for this old laptop or should I ask one of the seamstresses in my household to make me one from scratch? Less than $30 is preferred. $15 or less on clearance somewhere is best. Re: 1st gen MacBook protective sleeve recommendations wanted - rz - 02-13-2012 I'll look at mine when I get home. It sounds exactly like what you're looking for. I just forget who made it. Re: 1st gen MacBook protective sleeve recommendations wanted - GGD - 02-13-2012 Are you looking for something like this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002W5V8SE Re: 1st gen MacBook protective sleeve recommendations wanted - cbelt3 - 02-13-2012 Gosh darned near any neoprene and fabric 15" laptop sleeve will work for your application. Admittedly most of them are zipper closure based, but zippers don't act like the lint magnets that velcro does when swanning about in the bottom of a satchel. Re: 1st gen MacBook protective sleeve recommendations wanted - rz - 02-13-2012 Well, first off, his macbook is 13", not 15". And the velcro on my sleeve isn't a lint magnet. I'm not even sure how it would become one. When the macbook is in it, the velcro is closed. And when the macbook is being used, the sleeve usually sits on the table nearby. I've had it for about 5 years now and have never noticed a lint problem. My sleeve was made for the macbook, and it conforms to it really snugly. There's even a little window on it so you can see the Apple logo. For some reason, I'm really anal about making sure I put the macbook in it so the logo shows, even though I know it doesn't matter which way you put it in the sleeve... Re: 1st gen MacBook protective sleeve recommendations wanted - wolfcry911 - 02-13-2012 This sleevz doesn't exactly fit your wants, but I thought I'd share it with you anyway. It's the first thing I purchase for my laptops. Radtech makes other sleeves as well. Re: 1st gen MacBook protective sleeve recommendations wanted - TheTominator - 02-13-2012 Sorry that I forgot to include that my MacBook is 13" in my original post. Re: 1st gen MacBook protective sleeve recommendations wanted - rz - 02-13-2012 Tominator, my sleeve is made by MacCase. It is this one: http://www.mac-case.com/Products/MacCase%20Sleeves.html They have it for $39.99, but this link has it for $26.99 with a free messenger bag: http://www.macmall.com/p/MacCase-Carrying-Cases/product~dpno~7243182~pdp.ebaiicd I'm pretty sure this is where I got mine from, and recall the messenger bag being crap. I think I sold it for $1 at a garage sale. But I think the sleeve alone is worth $26.99, so I was happy. Re: 1st gen MacBook protective sleeve recommendations wanted - TheTominator - 02-14-2012 Thank you all for your recommendations. rz's recommendation of the MacCase sleeve hits all my marks (although I can do without the logo window). Re: 1st gen MacBook protective sleeve recommendations wanted - TheTominator - 02-14-2012 I found the MacCase model 4211 sleeve (designed for the dimensions for my ancient MacBook I think). for $16.14 shipped. The price is listed at $16.99 on the product page, but I was given some sort of discount at checkout (via Amazon Payments). I've never purchased from this vendor before so I hope this isn't a knockoff or other disappointment. |
