Four HDMI is good, but six is better.

HDMI for

1) AppleTV
2) Mac Mini HTPC
3) DVD Player
4) Cable box 1
5) Cable box 2

Okay, I need to get rid of some of these.

Bazooka,

Lux's response made me raise an eyebrow, too.

I think the typical person has the following:

Input 1: Cable box
Input 2: Streaming media device, i.e. Roku, AppleTV (1,2 or 3), etc.
Input 3: Blu-Ray Player
Input 4: Game Console, i.e. PS3

I wouldn't get a receive with less than four HDMI inputs. While I consider thatthe bear minimu, four is actually sufficient for most people. Consider... Game consoles and most blu-ray players can serve as a streaming media device. Same goes for the TV itself. So, four inputs is probably enough for a typical home user. Six would be better but four should be sufficient as the minimum and the Denon covers it.

Robert

Yep. Right now I only have 2. A PS3 (which is my bluray player too) and my WDTV. So 4 is plenty. My brother ordered one and he's got a PS3, Xbox, WDTV and a cable box. So perfect for him.

We are nothing if not gadjet freaks on this board!

I have a Denon 1610. I've had it 2 years now and must confess I haven't spent any time at all with the manual. (I'm gonna lose my GF Card for this!) It's a 5.1 setup but I haven't been able to get two of the speakers to work. I'm sure it's just a set-up thing that is wrong (these aren't plug and play like they used to be in the old days). Also, I have to crank the volume knob to get anything approaching decent volume to my Polk speakers; this was never a problem with my old Marantz circa 1977 receiver (which I kept). I'm hoping this is a setup issue. I just haven't made the time to tackle it.

The sound is not as warm as the old Marantz. Passing through all that circuitry takes something out of it. This is common with modern receivers, though.

Mine does have Audyssey which is supposed to be a big deal for sound quality but again, I need to read the manual and spend some time on batpig's pages (batpig is the moniker of a Denon guru who has a whole site and I think parts of AVS forum devoted to helping people set up/decide on which Denon: worth checking out) reading up on how to get the most out of it.

Sorry I can't comment on this model, but I'd hit the Amazon reviews and AVS forum to see what others say. I got my 1610 for $300 delivered if that helps. That was January of 2010. It was a new model then. It is truly worth it to read up on what a particular receiver offers before pulling the trigger.

I bought a refurb Denon a/v receiver off ubid years ago.I had more trouble with this than all other electronics I have bought in 40 years combined.
shipped it back for repair 4-6 times, I ran out of ink keeping track. They finally replaced it with a new one and it went back twice. after that they would not return my phone calls. It sounds great if you can hear it when the internal cooling fan comes on.

Good thing it's not a refurb. Seriously though. I love my denon. And this particular one has gotten some good reviews. Especially for that price.

I'm confused by the specs. If you add up all the watts, it comes out to over 900. But the specs say 330w.
