Elderly, Injured, Broke Friend Needs Help In UK. How To Get Money To Him? - chopper - 03-12-2012 I've got a seventy year old friend in the UK who suffered a fall and is bedbound for now and may be for some time. He's a real good guy and I want to help him out financially as he is pretty much destitute. He has a lot of friends here in the USA and I'm sure they would send a few dollars his way, if it were easy. Paypal is of course the solution. However, he can barely get e-mail and is very computer illiterate. He has no kids, and only a sister who is even less computer able than he is. All of his friends would seem to be of the age where computers are not the first option. I wish there were a way to get paypal money to him. Any suggestions? He says he is down to his last 200 pounds. time is of the essence. Re: Elderly, Injured, Broke Friend Needs Help In UK. How To Get Money To Him? - gabester - 03-12-2012 Wait, is this for real or a variation on the scam where someone's email gets hacked and sends you a message about how they just lost their wallet while traveling overseas and need you to wire them money because they don't want their parents to find out? Because right now it sounds a lot like the latter! Whatever happened to wiring money? I know that has fees, but they might be worth it in this case to ensure your friend receives it. And then put a check in the mail for later. g= Re: Elderly, Injured, Broke Friend Needs Help In UK. How To Get Money To Him? - chopper - 03-12-2012 I spoke to him on the telephone. I've known him for twenty years. Re: Elderly, Injured, Broke Friend Needs Help In UK. How To Get Money To Him? - haikuman - 03-12-2012 Perhaps a forum member in the UK could assist you some how . . . How To Get Money To Him? - voodoopenguin - 03-12-2012 I have PayPal accounts and once money is in my PayPal account I can transfer it to my bank account. I can then do online banking to transfer to any other bank account as long as I have the sort code and account number. No problems with security as the sort code and account number are written on all cheques you write so in a way are public knowledge. If you need my assistance then feel free to PM me. Where in the UK is your friend? Paul Re: Elderly, Injured, Broke Friend Needs Help In UK. How To Get Money To Him? - chopper - 03-12-2012 There would be 40-50 different people who would send him money if he had an electronic way of receiving it. I assume it'll be less than 10 if not. Re: Elderly, Injured, Broke Friend Needs Help In UK. How To Get Money To Him? - Ombligo - 03-12-2012 Moneygram.. Just like Western Union and far cheaper. I've used it for years. You can do it from your computer or any Wal-Mart (which is cheaper, $10 for up to $999). Easiest way is if he has a trusted friend or family member (assuming he can't get out of the house) who can pick it up for him. In the UK, Moneygram is at most post office locations. You will need the full name of the person picking it up - ideally off of there national ID card or passport. Then they can use the same document as ID when they pick it up. Re: Elderly, Injured, Broke Friend Needs Help In UK. How To Get Money To Him? - Paul F. - 03-12-2012 What immeiately occurs to me is for people to PayPal YOU... (with the caveat to be careful, because PayPal may flag the "operation" as "suspicious" and freeze the account...), and then either Western Union, wire transfer, or even buy a prepaid visa card and FedEx it (though the fees on the visa, and the cost of the FedEx make that a poorer choice). Hope this helps! Re: Elderly, Injured, Broke Friend Needs Help In UK. How To Get Money To Him? - haikuman - 03-12-2012 Paul F. wrote: Paul has made a good point. Perhaps have your friends transfer money to your Bank Acct. Then you send 1 lump sum. . . the best way you can. Rudie |
