On Wednesday, Apple added iPad 2 trade-ins to its Reuse and Recycling program, which exchanges used hardware for Apple gift cards.
The move pits Apple against the likes of eBay's Instant Sale buy-back service, and firms such as Gazelle and NextWorth that specialize in buying smartphones and tablets.
Reuse and Recycling is only available to U.S. customers. Apple outsources its electronics recycling and buy-back programs to PowerON, a Roseville, Calif. company.
On Thursday, Apple offered $205 for a used 16GB Wi-Fi iPad 2.

Apple seems to be offering about $45 less for the equivalent iPad.

I would rather give it to someone that may need a iPad than get that price for it. People that bought the best iPad last year would lose about $500 of value in one year if you take their offer and that's if it's in excellent shape. Hey stocks should go up if they get your machine at that price.

No, they're offering about the same or a bit more than the others as of today.
More interesting ro me is that Apple's trade-in page freezes Saari on my iPad2!

Used, as opposed to refurb? I wonder if they will refurb the used ones with scratches, etc. (new aluminum and glass if necessary) and sell them as refurbs? Or specifically used at an even lower price?

my guess: they'll offer them to schools who have a contract for iPads as replacements for whatever insurance policy the institution holds with Apple or its educational subsidiaries.
