A couple of SSD deals - DP - 05-10-2012 Good prices? Kingston 256 for $210, Sandisk Extreme 480Gb for $490. http://www.buy.com/prod/kingston-256gb-ssdnow-v200-series-2-5-sata-iii-internal-solid-state/226050640.html http://www.buy.com/prod/sandisk-extreme-480gb-2-5-sata-iii-solid-state-drive-ssd/227072804.html Re: A couple of SSD deals - pdq - 05-10-2012 Nice to see SSD's getting below $1 per GB. Re: A couple of SSD deals - john dough - 05-10-2012 Not to knock the Kingston, but the SATA III speeds are about 70% of the models that are dropping as well. Still faster than mechanical drives but you need to know what you are getting. I found the specs here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139951 Give it time and the faster SSDs (over 450MB read and write) will be below $250 again. The Sandisk looks REAL nice and may be a good drive for a laptop where you want to carry around everything with you. Re: A couple of SSD deals - ADent - 05-10-2012 Not all of us have 6GB/s SATA connections. The SATA III speeds are fine for many. But I do agree that people need to know what they are getting. In face the next drive I want to get is for a SATA I machine. Re: A couple of SSD deals - john dough - 05-10-2012 This drive is very popular, faster and only $40 more; http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=SAMSSD256 I set one up in a MBP last week and it made a HUGE difference (vs the mechanical drive). Even if you don't have a SATA III connection now, you will be covered if your next machine does and you want to bring your SSD. Re: A couple of SSD deals - john dough - 05-10-2012 Even better: Crucial 256GB M4 for under $200! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148443&Tpk=CT256M4SSD2 Re: A couple of SSD deals - hal - 05-10-2012 that sold out long ago Re: A couple of SSD deals - john dough - 05-11-2012 When I posted, it was available again (maybe only for a short time). The point is that the deals are getting better every day. When I hear of them, I will pass them on with a RYF! |
