More wildlife pics from the river BW - hal - 06-14-2012 Still recovering from illness, but felt that I really needed another walk today because the heat wave is gonna kick into high gear tomorrow and beyond. These first two were actually from a week ago or so and got lost in the mix some how. Very bittersweet pic here. I was shooting the egret when there was a commotion on the bank and saw a female Wood Duck with brand new babies take off into the water. I'm sure that I scared them. The egret didn't mind, but these wood ducks are one of the shyest birds I know of and I've never even seen any out here on the river. The next day... in the same spot I saw only 4 of the babies, but no mom. They're surely all dead now... :-( ![]() Pretty deer... ![]() THIS is today... CUTE DEER! This is right next to the levee at the entrance. I'm very proud of this one - I was just as far from the fence as she is, but to the left 30 yards. I figured that I might get a really cool pose if I circled around and it worked. The deer stayed frozen - as they do - but swung the head around as I cirecled until I got this great pose. Nice, eh? ![]() New favorite spot for egrets (same as yesterday) ![]() This is probably the same one - probably scared him from the other spot while I couldn't see... ![]() tiny pretty flowers ![]() fisherman... ![]() I'm past the 1/2 way point in my circlular route and hitting a very hot patch of river rock. I was regretting biting off this much... really feeling the heat and fatigue when I spot this vulture... but he is spotting ME. This guy circles me for a full minute and I couldn't help but look up to him and say in a horrible accent, 'but I'm not dead yet... I'm feeling much better...' ![]() Another fairly good kingfisher shot (considering how hard it is to get them) ![]() And a decent dive shot - one day I want to really nail this... ![]() a hare taking a nap in the shade - this was sounding like a really good idea to me... ![]() and another deer on the way out - good day of shooting, but I'm useless for the rest of the day... ![]() Re: More wildlife pics from the river BW - LaserKun - 06-14-2012 Hope you feel better soon! And, thanks for the very good photos again! I always enjoy your work, makes me feel relaxed... Where are you? With the fisherman wearing that kind of hat? Re: More wildlife pics from the river BW - hal - 06-14-2012 I'm in sacramento - going out into the wild lands, you see LOTS of immigrants fishing in whatever attire they are used to... extremely diverse population here...
