What's the deal now? no install disks with new computer? - samintx - 06-16-2012
The instruction "whats in the box" didn't show install disks. Do I have to buy Lion? if I want disks in reserve? with all the money they make it looks like to me they could afford install disks. Bummer.

No discs since Lion.
Your machine has a recovery partition if need be.
You can always make a DVD or thumb drive, instructions on the Apple site.
Probably never need one.

Well, I'm downloading Lion from the App site and downloaded how to make an install disk from Mac Fixit and MacWorld. I pay zero attention to OS upgrades unless they appear on software updates. So, now I think I'll be in business. I'm old fashioned....like to have an install disk in my box.

That is the way to go. There is a recovery partition on the internal hard drive. You can boot into that in case the OS on the internal takes a dump. HOWEVER, in order to re-install the OS from that Recovery partition, you need an internet connection, because the OS must be downloaded to be installed. If you are out of range of wifi, you are sunk, UNLESS you have that OS in your pocket (disk).

That is the way to go given that in the event of HD failure the recovery partition also goes away. Personally with the size of the downloads and even though I have a fat 24MB download pipe from Uverse it is still a RPITA. I opted for the $69 Apple USB key as a time saver since I have several machines, worth every penny in my book.

Jez Louise! why don't the..y make it complicated. I see the HD icon airnt there either. anyway to put one on the desktop? There is anything on the desktop except the screen saver.S
Seems like to me they apple changes things just to make changes and look diff with no real reason.
