Didja RTFA ? Speaking truthfully about his father's quite accurateadvice to a young man. Shows signs of being a political naiif.. most experienced pols never, ever, ever say anything from the heart or memory. But an evil misogynist ? Nah...

[/sarcasm] Bastard. Hanging's too good for him. :villagers:

LIke the media, I can take ANY comment out of context and make it look horrible.

For example, taking bits of President Obama's nomination acceptance speech out of context:

http://www.npr.org/2012/09/06/160713941/transcript-president-obamas-convention-speech

" the first time I addressed this convention, I was a younger man who spoke about hope, blind optimism, wishful thinking, and uncertainty. After the worst economic crisis in history, I seem small, even silly".

Get the point ?

You gotta admit - it's one hell of a soundbite.

Didja RTFA ?

Because you are a constant apologist, it is not surprising that you would assume I didn't read an article I linked, perhaps that helps you justify your continued support of organizations that are nakedly discriminatory and linked to some of the worst attitudes in our society. Let me ask, in the context of the article, what do you find acceptable in this GOP politicians reiteration of his father's advice that "some girls are easy to rape." Do you find in it an attitude that fosters respect? Does it stop the spread of these vile attitudes? How do you find this to be "quite accurate" advice? I have to consider this a new low for you.

Edited for mistyping.

Re: "Some girls rape easy" - cbelt3 - 10-11-2012

August,

I'm afraid I can't explain your desire to be enraged at anything that Republican politicians may say, regardless of the contextual environment in which those comments are made. You are normally a very thoughtful person who attempts to understand the topics from all sides.

I do not regard my role as an 'apologist' but as a 'contextual corrector' attempting to present 'the rest of the story', rather than those epic sound bites that our manipulative media feeds to the attention deficient population of our country. You may also note that I've provided this sort of 'service' in favor of Democratic politicians as well as Republican politicians, so you cannot properly claim a deep seated bias.

In the case of this particular tempest in a chamber pot, there is a specific difference between an unseasoned politician relating a cautionary tale from his childhood and that same politician calling a press conference and declaring that the repulsive crime of rape is a lie.

But your enthusiasm for being enraged, coupled with the media's enthusiam for out of context headline whoring, has made you a victim.

Well, Paul Ryan just withdrew his endorsement, so there must be SOME kind of problem here.

Your misrepresentation of me failed to address my questions to you and to defend your position that this advice was "quite accurate." Please explain how this advice is "quite accurate."

"State Representative Rivard's comments are outrageous and offensive," Siefert said in a statement. "Congressman Ryan believes there is no place in our discourse for rhetoric such as this. Congressman Ryan cannot support Mr. Rivard or his indefensible comments."

It appears there is at least one GOP defender. Better give Rep. Ryan a call, he needs your help, cbelt.

Re: "Some girls rape easy" - Manlove - 10-11-2012

I don't see the words "some girls are easy to rape."
The phrase is "some girls rape easy." Both statements may be true, but only one as used.

Cbelt is right, contextuality is key.
