Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies at age 108. - Paul F. - 10-22-2012 I'm disturbed by the anti-semitic, history revisionist, posts in the comments to the story, but I wanted to make sure this was seen... Even some of us who are NOT jewish say "Never Forget, Never Again". http://news.yahoo.com/worlds-oldest-survivor-auschwitz-dies-108-134516242.html Re: Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies at age 108. - Carnos Jax - 10-22-2012 Agree with you Paul...never forget. The concentration camps and the institution of slavery are two of the most shameful scars on our modern times. And don't worry about those comments on Yahoo, they're always there. Re: Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies at age 108. - space-time - 10-22-2012 "Never Forget, Never Again". Agree... BTW, I met a German guy who married a Jewish woman. This happend about 20 years ago. I have been told that most of her family did not even attend the wedding. Some of them still had those scars (numbers printed on their arms). They were very upset when she decided to marry a German. Re: Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies at age 108. - cbelt3 - 10-22-2012 What we're seeing is a rather typical generational thing... it's been roughly three generations since World War II. Most Interwebs opinionators may have only vaguely heard about the War from their grandparents. Those of us who heard about it from our parents and teachers who were there... well, it's still sharp in our mindsl. Re: Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies at age 108. - Ombligo - 10-22-2012 I always enjoyed the irony that the last direct survivor of WW2 is likely to be a Jewish child survivor of the Nazi camps. A great spit in the eye to those that tried to erase them from the world. Idz w pokoju pana Dobrowolskiego (translation from Polish: Go in Peace Mr. Dobrowolski (at least I hope that is what it says)) Re: Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies at age 108. - Paul F. - 10-22-2012 Ombligo wrote: Fixed that for you... Only they ain't speaking German any more. Re: Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies at age 108. - Uncle Wig - 10-22-2012 Those comments are disgusting! I always wonder how people can be so stupid and hateful, but I know I will never understand. RIP Mr. Dobrowolski. Re: Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies at age 108. - colonel panic - 10-23-2012 I read an Interesting article recently about how descendents of Auswitch survivors (and other camps) are getting tattoos of the numbers that their ancestors were given by the Nazis. It must be incredibly hard to be reminded of that every day but as we move from living memory to a historical memory, it is also important to not forget one of the darkest times in human history. Re: Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies at age 108. - Don C - 10-23-2012 We just lost a survivor this past year. She took a class of high school seniors to the Holocaust Museum every year for a personal tour. The teacher of that course gave a euolgy that was breathtakingly beautiful. Anne was one of the most gentle and certainly one of the happiest ladies I've ever known. Re: Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies at age 108. - ka jowct - 10-23-2012 It must be incredibly hard to be reminded of that every day but as we move from living memory to a historical memory, it is also important to not forget one of the darkest times in human history. Specific events may fade into historical memory, but we shouldn't kid ourselves that nothing like that will happen again. Genocide has certainly recurred since then, and it will continue to recur unless we suddenly become much, much better creatures than we currently are. Intervention in genocide is extremely rare, and groups engaged in it (and those who might be in some way obligated to intervene) resist the application of the term "genocide" to their actions. The Turks still refuse to admit that they carried out a campaign of genocide in Armenia. |
