So, last night I attempted to get the "Sony Ericsson Connection Proxy" working, which would allow me to use my PC's internet connection through my new phone, allowing me to browse the internet on the phone without being charged extremely high data prices through Cingular(Blue).
The connection proxy software failed to work at some point, resulting in $0.03 a KiloByte charges, and with 923 KiloBytes.... Close to $30 for ONE SINGLE MEGABYTE!!
I called to have them add an mmode plan, which if I'm lucky will take that data with it, lowing my charges significantly, either way, $30 for a megabyte.
It would cost a small fortune to download a linux ISO, and to download something like the windows vista beta, at 3.57 GB would land you around $107,000 dollars.
Of course, now I believe cingular charges a bargain basement price of $0.01 without a data plan, which I think is still expensive. Eitherway I'm annoyed and I'm crossing my fingers that that mmode plan I got put on this morning will save me.

The unlimited data plan is only $10 bucks/month more. If you're going to continue to use your cell phone to connect your computer to the 'net, I highly advise the upgrade in service.

Actually, I can get by with unlimited data for $25.
I wasn't connecting my computer through my cell phone, I was trying to connect my cell phone through my dads PC, SO THAT I wouldn't have to pay the high data fees, yet could still browse the internet on the phone.
Eitherway, I'm annoyed, as mentioned.
$25 is a little more than I'd like to put forward each month.

I think you've got the wrong plan. Unless they raised the price on the unlimited data plan recently.
The "Laptop Connect" and "Data Connect" plans are ripoffs. Any decent phone can double as a modem via mmode under the Media Net plans for $10.00 ( 1MB ), $15.00 ( 5MB ) and $20 (unlimited).

Yeah. That would be cool. I tried setting that up with my Nokia awhile ago. It got so far as to connect to my computer through the proxy I set up, but couldn't get out on the 'net.
I'm left wondering from your original message: Why didn't you confirm that they were crediting you for your data usage when you were on the line with them? And did they tell you that when you change to a new data plan, they give you unlimited usage for a month to get you addicted?

I can surf on my Nokia E61 with no problems using it's built-in 802.11b. You should get one, MC13.

We're on our old AT&T Plan.

I am confused as to why you would want to surf on a phone when you have a computer sitting there?
