It will pass within 268,000 miles of earth or the movie Independence Day is about to come true.

In previous articles, it seems you should be able to see this with a telescope in North America.

… magnitude 13 - 11. so it'll be about 100 times fainter than the faintest star visible to an unaided eye … but it'll be moving which increases your chance of picking it out (if you have good 8" or better telescope, a clear sky, etc, etc)

The rock is about 1km in diameter … good luck.
