Trader Joe's in San Antonio! - Rolando - 11-12-2012 Trader Joe's finally opened in San Antonio (at the Quarry Market). I was surprised at how small the store was. Wife and I tried a a selection of various items. The Cookie Spread is delicious! The Apple Cider is great. I enjoyed some with rum, I put some in pork roast I slow cooked, Five stars so far. I tried the world famous "3 buck chuck" both the Cab and the Shiraz. I like reds but these aren't my favorite varietals, given the choice I'd head for a nice Malbec. But on their on merits... I like the Cabernet and Shiraz, they are both competent bottles, nothing I'd be ashamed to serve. Yes, I've had better, but at that price... For only slightly more I can get a Chilean Cab or Argentine Malbec (Concha y Toro Frontera is good, Gaucho not as good). On the other hand, Chuck is better than the Lucky Duck WalMart brand I had last month! Re: Trader Joe's in San Antonio! - dmann - 11-12-2012 Beware of the Cookie Butter! LOL! I just sent care packages to friends (10 in all) and each box contained a jar of Cookie Butter. I think they liked that more than the "main" gift in the box. ![]() DM Re: Trader Joe's in San Antonio! - M>B> - 11-12-2012 The super food world wide food comanagement Aldi owns Trader Joe's, beware and be informed... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aldi Re: Trader Joe's in San Antonio! - DP - 11-12-2012 M>B> wrote: So far I haven't noticed any difference. We love TJ and welcome to the club! Lot's of good stuff... We have a minor problem at our one of our local TJ's (we have three within a 15 mile radius); they are moving! But, they're moving closer to us, and the problem is the people who live near it are unhappy it is moving away from them! But it has always had a parking problem and it is a small store too. The new site is a closed Kroger store with lots of parking and closer to us. Re: Trader Joe's in San Antonio! - Mr Downtown - 11-12-2012 No formal connection between Aldi USA and Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's is owned, since 1979, by a family trust set up by the late German businessman Theo Albrecht, one of the two brothers behind the German discount supermarket chain Aldi Nord. USA Aldi is a division of Aldi Sud, originally owned by his brother Karl Albrecht. The two chains originally were a single family enterprise until a friendly division of assets in 1960. Re: Trader Joe's in San Antonio! - JoeBob - 11-12-2012 The Wilmington NC store is scheduled to open in a few weeks :ftw: We are excited to not have to drive to Raleigh to stock up on our favorite TJ's goodies. The originator of Trader Joe's is a local from Pasadena, he sold out to Aldi over 30 years ago, what's your point? |
