LYF - Cree CR6 bulbs at Home Depot $29.97 - gabester - 11-12-2012

I was just at Home Depot... they have the Cree CR6 Ecosmart bulbs for $29.97 each. I picked up one on the strength of recommendation from this forum last year - they had some ridiculous discount (possibly because I can't imagine a $30+ light bulb sells very well.) I picked one up then and was impressed enough that I went back a few days later to buy the other one they had in stock.

Only their stock was gone. Since then they've had them for $42 or so. I've been waiting for a deal like this... and now it's back. I only picked up one this afternoon in part because I wanted to see how many bulbs I needed (I might need as many as 4 more it looks like.) It's hard to fathom paying $120 for 4 light bulbs. But they really are phenomenal if you've got an application like I do in a living room with a dimmer switch setup.

Thought I'd pass this along I think there's a couple other forum members who might want to know.

The first one there for $29.97. I couldn't get the link to easily transfer so I gave up - plus it seems to be an in-store only (or order online/pickup in store deal.)

About the Cree... - RAMd®d - 11-13-2012

Bulbs, not the tribe...

What's the illumination like, the light spread, in particular.

For instance, LEDs are notoriously directional. I've got a one-AA cell Zebra light that lum-heads call a "floody" cool-kid speak for a flood light beam. The way the bulb is placed in the reflector gives a beam with about 120degree spread. It's pretty impressive.

Does this Cree bulb have a wide beam? Can it be dimmed? (LEDs seem to need PWM for dimming.) If it's one of the bulbs above, it seems it's designed for recessed pictures rather than a hanging lamp.

Re: About the Cree... - davester - 11-13-2012

We have Cree CR6 bulbs in all the fixtures in our family room. The light quality is great, they have a very homogenous wide flood beam spread, and they are dimmable. They are far superior to all of the junk cheapo LEDs out there and I think they are much nicer than incandescent bulbs. The CR6 is only usable in a recessed fixture. Cree also makes a regular flood bulb but I can't remember what it's model number is.

Thanks, davester.

Space-time, you get a $5 discount on them over me - those $24.97 bulbs show as $29.97 in my area...

I HATE that. I'd actually consider paying you to buy 4 and send them to me, but I know the boxes are so big that I'm sure the shipping would eat most of the extra savings.
