Eifel tower, RAW and Jpeg - space-time - 01-12-2013
OK, found some RAW images I took in Paris.

and here is a Jpeg I exported from Adobe Photoshop Elements. I am just getting started with RAW, I am curious how much better of a Jpeg I could get form this RAW file. I don't really know what I am doing yet, I am starting the learning process

The sun angle must have been low to get that high color saturation. I love warm photos. Too bad the trees didn't get to share in the love.

Yes, it was before sunset. I think I have more pics later from that evening, will see if I can dig more pics later. I didn't have the heavy Bowen tripod with me though...

Applied my "Standard" Lightroom preset plus a little extra sharpening, a tiny bit of NR, and a bit of fill light for the foreground.

Nice shot. Raw gives you a good bit of flexibility to adjust your shot after capture but you really need a decent image to start with. I did a couple quick raw file adjustments in Lightroom and in NIK Viveza. Everyone adjusts raw to their own tastes and what the intended final use of the image is. With some practice, you can really pull a lot of color and toning information out of the file to get the image to more closely match what your eyes actually saw. Here are a couple examples.
Lightroom basic overall toning adjustments to the raw file, then export as jpg 85%
Viveza overall and selective toning to raw file and export as 85% jpg

I remember a class where we were all given the same raw file to tone to where we thought it looked best. They results were some good, some not so good, but no two the same and we had quite a lively critique session. :villagers:

thank all of you. What a contrast between my original JPEG and your images. I really need to learn how to process RAW to take advantage of my cameras.
