So our daughter calls this morning and says she wants to move back home... - CJsNvrUrly - 01-14-2013

She's 23. Her boyfriend told her--in a bar the night before--that he loved her, but wasn't IN love with her anymore. They've have had their ups and downs, but she sounded certain. I asked her four times during the course of the conversation if she was SURE she wanted to do this and she said yes each time. My husband and I, together with my sister and her husband, went over there, scooped up bed, TV, food, clothing, food, cats, etc. and brought them here. She went back for a few more items and...you guessed it. He cried and begged her to stay.
He probably looked around and saw he had no license (DUI), no car (broke down), no TV or bed (she paid for), and thought "Oh, sh*t. What'd I do?"
After we'd moved everything here, she asked us (my husband and I) what she should do. I told her the choice was up to her but made it clear that I thought they should move apart for at least a month.
We also said that we weren't moving the stuff back.
So she and her boyfriend came by and got her clothes and cats, the TV, and a few other things. The rest of the stuff is on our carport.

Yeesh. But what can you do? She has to learn her own lessons.

When our daughter hit 25 and was still at home we told her either she was moving out or we were. To quote Tom Wolfe "You can't go home again". Grow up. Be an adult.

She's now a teacher of almos 20-years standing, has a husband to die for and two wonderful kids. Kids who won't be staying with them after college.

Perfect CJ... what can you do? Beside explaining that you grownups aren't gonna be her personal movers. It was great that you all rallied around her cry for help. It's wonderful knowing that there are people that care for you that will jump on a moments notice if you are in need...

but clearly, moving everything BACK to the BFs house was not a need...

it'll be over in a few months and she will have grown a few years in that time...

The fog of youth, I know it well and am still dealing with the consequences of that era in my life. All you can do is advise and love the person I guess.

Breakdown or breakthrough.
Hope one or the other happens for them.

Sounds like losing the loser would be worth gaining your daughter back .
