In case you didn't know, http://snopes.com/ is a site devoted to busting internet hoaxes that have existed in urban legend form transferred to email and now on social media. Friends don't let friends repost hoaxes and look silly.

My extended family used to send these crazy stories out to huge numbers of people at the same time. I would look it up on snopes and reply back to all of them letting them know the story was false. Funny thing, they took me off their mailing lists. Poor me. Every once in awhile they forget and send another stupid story to me and I do it again. One guy almost got violently angry with me for letting him know he was spreading crapola.

No one sends me crap anymore...
I got taken off one for suggesting that using BCC: for the distribution list would be better, so that you don't share every email address that you know (which includes mine) with every person that you know, and they then forwards it (including the distribution list) to every one that they know.
