iPhone vibrating for no reason - M A V I C - 01-15-2013

I got a used iPhone 4 for use with a Phillips alarm clock. It came with iOS6 on it and has been fully reset. I've only setup WiFi and iTunes Home Sharing on it. We used it for 20 minutes or so and it worked fine. Then it said there was the iOS 6.0.1 update. I thought, what the heck, I'll apply it.

Whoops.

Now it vibrates twice, waits about five seconds, then vibrates twice again. I didn't do anything with it but apply the update.

I googled, found people mentioning text & email notifications. I turned vibrate off for those, but it shouldn't matter because I even have the phone disabled on it, and no email setup.

I've got bluetooth disabled as well. The only connectivity is WiFi.

I've tried reseating it in the dock, and the issue continues. Any idea how to get it to stop vibrating?

Thanks

It'll vibrate like that if you have it muted and the dock isn't giving it consistent power.

Does it have the problem when you connect it to a charging cable instead of to the dock?

oh, it's vibrating for a very good reason [and I don't mean for a kiki].....

Don't have a charge cable. Not sure why it didn't do it in 6.0

Phantom vibrate syndrome.

It's karma for complaining about the MBPR.

Any other ideas why it might be vibrating? Turned off every notification I could find, reseated it on the dock multiple times...

That vibrate twice sounds like the sound it makes when you connect it to a charger and have it on vibrate mode.

As to why it is doing that on a repeating basis, I can only speculate. Perhaps it is loosing connectivity periodically or the circuitry in the docking device is periodically disconnecting it as its way to prevent overcharging. Or it is periodically disconnecting it because the iPhone is drawing more current than the device is comfortable with and a circuit is overheating and resetting on the dock.

Borrowed a power cable. It doesn't vibrate when charging like the dock was. This is the alarm clock: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003M8HWDA/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=amazoncom080-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003M8HWDA

I now see it says "iPhone 3G/3GS" - guess that means it doesn't support the iPhone 4? Can't believe they'd sell a product that couldn't support any iphones from the past few years.

My iPod touch does the same thing when I use a wrong power supply. O bought a cheaper power supply for traveling, and it does that - can't use it now. I guess it pays to buy quality the first time - I should know that, after all, I use Macs...:quotes:
