Pics from a cold afternoon at the river - hal - 01-15-2013 It's been COLD here - for Sacramento. Lows well below freezing and highs in the high 40s low 50s. At least there has been some sun... I'm so disappointed in this... I know this area inside and out and a fantastic new photo op area doesn't come around often, but I saw a great egret and a snowy egret hanging out at this large puddle (small pond) that only rarely stays for more than a few days. The light was perfect, the reflections were beautiful and I wanted a good long time taking pics. I shot a few off right away before trying a quiet approach and some serious picture taking... Didn't happen. I made a noise on my fist step and scared them both away. ARGH!! This is the best one that I got, but it's NOTHING compared to what could have been... ![]() This little snowy egret is safe in the middle of the river - the SX50 does well here... ![]() Turning 45º, I see this shot. Wood Ducks are about the prettiest you'll find in North America and they are very shy. I've only seen a pair here or there - usually in the spring, but yesterday, I found their secret hiding place. Don't let the color fool you - it's COLD... ![]() Behind me as I take these shots I see this peculiar, opaque hard substance on the river bank. It's REALLY hard and cold. I better call Scientific American - I think I've made a major discovery. Seriously... I don't think I've EVER seen ice outside in Sacramento on a sunny day at 4:30PM. Burr... ![]() Re: Pics from a cold afternoon at the river - GuyGene - 01-15-2013 hal, you never disappoint!! I love looking at the photos you take! Thanks. Get on it! Re: Pics from a cold afternoon at the river - NewtonMP2100 - 01-16-2013 you happen to be there.....dumping a body.....???? Re: Pics from a cold afternoon at the river - JoeM - 01-16-2013 Really nice. So do you feel like you are getting better shots from the SX50 than you were getting from the SX40? My cousin is looking to pick up the SX40 after he saw some of my photographs with it. He is retired now and was a professional wedding photographer back in 70's, in the days of film. I told him to consider the SX50 as well. Re: Pics from a cold afternoon at the river - hal - 01-16-2013 I want to reserve judgement since I'm not shooting as much as usual right now and that always means that good pics come a little harder, but I'm still mastering the SX50. The SX40 only took a couple of days... Re: Pics from a cold afternoon at the river - Acer - 01-16-2013 That is a LOT of wood ducks in one spot. I never see more that two at a time up here in the northeast. |
