XP SP2 installed just fine, I also installed SP3. Now some drivers are missing. Video card is slow without drivers. some yellow question marks in Anyway, I see lots of choices for video drivers at dell.com how do I know which one to use/choose? I actaully need these (with yellow ? mark): Ethernet Controller Multimedia Audio Controller SM Bus Controller Video Controller Video Controller (VGA Compatible) should I open the thing and find out what video card is inside, or there is a better/easier way to tell? Thanks Re: Dell Optiplex GX620: which drivers to install? - C(-)ris - 04-11-2013 Install them all. Re: Dell Optiplex GX620: which drivers to install? - space-time - 04-11-2013 I found a serice tag on this computer, that seems to help a bit, I narrowed down the drivers somewhat. Re: Dell Optiplex GX620: which drivers to install? - ztirffritz - 04-11-2013 You might try this: Dell Client System Update http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00981149M/1/Sys-Man_Application_MJH8R_WN_1.3.0_A00.EXE It may or may not support the GX620. If it does, it is by far the fastest, easiest way to get all the updates. Re: Dell Optiplex GX620: which drivers to install? - space-time - 04-11-2013 thanks, good to know. does that require the PC to be on the network? right now I download to my laptop and I moved files one at a time via USB stick. I can't connect this PC to the network (corporate firewall) Re: Dell Optiplex GX620: which drivers to install? - ztirffritz - 04-11-2013 You'll need internet access for it to work, and even with access, it may not work. I couldn't verify that it is in the list of supported machines. If you can, copy and install at least the network driver. Then the you might be able to get the rest of the updates. Re: Dell Optiplex GX620: which drivers to install? - Sam3 - 04-11-2013 When we've needed to reinstall Windows on our Dells here at work, I've always used the Dell service tag to look up what drivers I need from Dell's web site. Re: Dell Optiplex GX620: which drivers to install? - Filliam H. Muffman - 04-12-2013 If it still has the OEM boot partition, you might be able to do a system restore so you can copy the original motherboard chipset drivers. Without them, it sometimes prevents all the hardware from being recognized properly. If that is not available, it might be possible to track down the type of chipset and install a compatible set of drivers from a motherboard manufacturer like Gigabyte or ASUS. I was able to find the right drivers after all. The driver for the chip set didn't work. I found another thread on a dell forum with a link to a driver which worked. Re: Dell Optiplex GX620: which drivers to install? - Carm - 04-12-2013 I was able to install Windows 7 on one of those machines with a hacked bios. Works ok. For the latest video drivers. Using the video chipset, search intel's site. |
