Belated RIP Deanna Durbin - samintx - 05-07-2013
I'm sure not many here know this singer/movie star. As a kid I loved her movies. She died the end of April but lived a long life.
Deanna Durbin was a Canadian singer and actress, who appeared in a number of musical films in the 1930s and 1940s, her singing voice being variously described as being light but full, sweet and unaffected. Wikipedia

I am too young to appreciate Deanna Durbin, to me she was always that actress that my father had a crush on in _his_ youth. I have never seen any of her films.
But she still holds the memory, somehow... it took a few minutes to remember.
Ray Bradbury: "The Anthem Sprinters". First a short story, and then a play, and then another play, and then a TV episode. Deanna Durbin figures prominently, even though she isn't actually present.
I asked my dad once whether there actually was Anthem Sprinting in Ireland, where people placed bets.
He replied that the betting came first, what was bet upon was a mere formality. Which the story illustrates, wonderfully.

Sorry Suzanne, I tried to avoid her movies when I was a kid in the 40s. Too corny. I liked Sabu better. My older sister liked her a lot and looked like her too.
