Thoroughly awesome!

If you make it over to the town of Gamvik (a few kilometers southeast of the cape...) look for a rifle range and take pictures, please...
Found a brief reference to one a couple years ago (on a google-translated page), and would love to connect with a gun club in far-northern Norway.

Or, if you're back already, hope you had a terrific trip!
I'm off to peruse the rest of those pics.

Great stuff - post more pics of your journey!

71º...

I've got my world map up next to me here... that's north of Hudson Bay... North of the Arctic circle... North of Iceland... That's WAY up there...

does it get dark at night?

Depends on the time of year :-)
It sure as hell does in winter!
I read the tourist description of that area a while back... it seems they don't TECHNICALLY have a summer at all. The temperatures have to rise above X for Y number of days to be considered "summer", and up there it doesn't make the cut.

I can barely imagine spending a winter up there. Well, with 3-4 Norwegian college girls, a big bed, and a big fireplace, I could probably learn how... but hey, how likely is THAT to happen?

Just getting back. Unpacking into washer and dryer.

It got somewhat dark at night. Sun went over the horizon at about 11PM and rose again around 4AM. A couple weeks late for the Midnight Sun and too early for the Northern Lights.
Along the coast of Norway is actually tempered by the Gulf Stream, so life along the immediate coast isn't too bad. Once you get inland it gets tougher, although even along a fjord there is/was a fishing living to (have been) be had .

Great photos.

A little commercial at the top of Europe but still a fascinating place to visit.

One of the items I bought that is in constant use for hot chocolate drinks:
