Ethernet card <$$?? - sam ward - 07-24-2006 I need a cheap one. OWC wants $90 for one. Re: Ethernet card <$$?? - sam ward - 07-24-2006 For a G4 mirror door Re: Ethernet card <$$?? - incognegro - 07-24-2006 We've been using TRENDnet TEG-PCITXR gigabit ethernet PCI cards in OS 9 and OS X systems. For OS 9 compatibility, a beta Realtek driver is needed, which I received from a Realtek tech support engineer. They work without additional drivers under OS X. Here's the card: http://www.trendnet.com/products/TEG-PCITXR.htm It uses the 8169s 1000 MBps chipset. These cards run around $14-$15 each on the net. Re: Ethernet card <$$?? - ka jowct - 07-24-2006 For what machine and OS? Check reports gigE cards that work with OS X at I got a Hawking card for my G4/AGP for (I think) $20 or so: definitely under $30. Re: Ethernet card <$$?? - sam ward - 07-24-2006 OS10.2.8 Re: Ethernet card <$$?? - ka jowct - 07-24-2006 I think the Hawking might have needed drivers for Panther, can't remember, but definitely didn't need anything to work with Tiger. Is there any reason you're sticking with 10.2.8? Panther would provide quite a boost in speed and software compatibility. Is there a problem with the ethernet in your MDD, or are you just upgrading to faster ethernet than what's built in? Re: Ethernet card <$$?? - sam ward - 07-24-2006 thanks, all, and ka, for the xlr8 pointer. I would like to upgrade, but use Logic Pro 6 and other OS9 programs that get sensitive or unusable with later OSs. Re: Ethernet card <$$?? - StingMe - 07-24-2006 Similar thread: http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/88300/88340 Re: Ethernet card <$$?? - Frank Pardue - 07-24-2006 I second incognegro's recommendation of the TrendNet cards. A detailed review and link to the Realtek drivers for OS 9 and OS X is at this link: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/os_x_network_cards.html These cards have been running for almost two years in a gigabit network and have worked perfectly under both OS 9 and X. Amazon has them for $16. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00023433U/ref=nosim/104-7448007-8603160?n=172282 Re: Ethernet card <$$?? - Racer X - 07-25-2006 [quote ka jowct]Is there a problem with the ethernet in your MDD, or are you just upgrading to faster ethernet than what's built in? Gotta be a problem, as the MDD has GigE. hell, any Apple tower after 2000 has GigE. |
