Electrical storm in Sacramento - freeradical - 09-02-2013

This is pretty freaky weather today. We've had intermittent showers and now thunder and lightning!

It's pouring now. We may get a measurable amount of rainfall today.

In areas that get them, they are called 'thunderstorms.' And that whirly thing in the distance is called a 'tornado.'

The Sierras often just get electrical storms - which cause fires...

I looked at the National Weather Service site, and they said one of the sources of moisture for this rain is the remnants of tropical cyclone Juliette. It's unusual for this type of system to make it up here. I guess this was the system that caused the weather down south a few days ago?
