One of the world’s longest tapestries has been unveiled at the Scottish Parliament

The community arts project, which tells Scotland’s story from pre-history to modern times, was unveiled for the first time by the Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick.

Measuring 143 metres long, the Great Tapestry of Scotland is one of the longest in the world. The 160 panels capture unique moments in time during Scotland’s history. It was devised by author Alexander McCall Smith along with historian Alistair Moffat and artist Andrew Crummy.

One thousand stitchers aged from four to 94 took part with the taking more than 50,000 hours to complete. It will be exhibited in the Main Hall of the Scottish Parliament until September 21.

Very cool..
Hopefully they use it to cover the outside of the Scottish Parliament building... it's a hideous eyesore. Makes you want to ask someone; "You're building a new Parliament building, in one of the oldest and distinguished cities in Scotland, a symbol for Scotland of renewed independence. Look at this set of plans and tell me what the designer was smoking/injecting when he came up with it?"

With a review like that I had to look it up. You're right. It looks like several sets of designs were mixed and and construction completed before anyone noticed.

I walked right past the Parliament building in Edinburgh... and it's ugly from pretty much any angle.
