MacBook: Display DEAD - How will Apple deal with this? - Jerry® - 07-25-2006

Great. No matter what I do - zap the PRAM, etc - my MacBook display is fsked up. Lines across the screen.

Anyone know how Apple will deal with this? Am I gonna have to ship this back to them and wait weeks before it's fixed and shipped back to me? Or will they ship me a new one while I ship this one back. It's obviously screwed up - through no fault of my own.

I'm completely frustrated. I placed my original order on July 5th and finally received it on July 20th - only to be the lucky one and get one with a bad display.

This is ridiculous. I was so psyched to finally receive my MacBook - and now I'm gonna have to wait weeks for them to fix it.

Disappointed & frustrated
Jerry

The LONGEST I have waited for a laptop to be fixed was 48 hours.
That is from the moment I handed to the delivery guy, to the moment he handed back to me.
No, they will not give you a loaner.
Stop flipping out, if you would have called Apple earlier, you would have had a shipping box by tomorrow morning.

Apple will fix it in a reasonable amount of time once you send it back.

OK - First of all -I DID call Apple earlier and was on the phone with them for an hour. They told me to hang on to it another day to see if the display problems kept happening.

I'm not flipping out. I'm just really frustrated about this - and have every right to be. It shouldn't be a coin toss as to whether or not I'm going to get a working unit or a lemon.

I had to send a Pismo, and later an iBook, back to Apple for repair. Both times it took 4 days to get it back including the shipping time. I sent the Pismo back over a Fourth of July holiday because the display had to be replaced, and it was still only gone took 4 days total.

OK another question - when I got my MacBook - I swapped out the 60GIG HDD and replaced it with a 120GIG drive - can I leave the 120GIG drive in? Or am I going to have to swap drives before I send it in? The Apple Support tech said something about me having to pay for shipping if it has any 3rd party DIY parts (ie RAM, HDD) in it.

Thanks you guys for your help.

I would remove any DIY parts you have installed, incase they give you a new one. Easier to correct now--than later

It just makes sense to switch back:

1. Apple won't know you switched and therefore won't blame you for butterfingering the 'book into its troubles.

2. The orig. drive hasn't got Parallels, so you'll eliminate that as the cause of your trouble (it's not the cause, but it'd be nice to prove that).

3. You'll save on shipping.
