iPad mini with Retina display coming, but may be delayed - tronnei - 10-02-2013 Supply chain issues: http://news.yahoo.com/sharper-display-apple-ipad-mini-faces-delay-sources-055639121--sector.html Re: iPad mini with Retina display coming, but may be delayed - Sam3 - 10-02-2013 This does not bode well for the holiday shopping season, and then there is this part: Yahoo/Reuters wrote: I find that quite disconcerting. Are these new people to tablets or are they switchers? If they are switchers, then I guess not many people are buying apps in the app store, or they are OK having to re-buy their apps on their new platforms. Walking around ArtPrize I noticed many more tablets other than iPads this year. I saw people taking pictures with Samsungs, a Nexus, a few Kindles. They were all 7" devices as well. Re: iPad mini with Retina display coming, but may be delayed - decay - 10-02-2013 neither of these surprise me in the least. Re: iPad mini with Retina display coming, but may be delayed - thermarest - 10-02-2013 I've been a bit disappointed by the continuing reports of retinia mini delays myself. I was quite close to buying a nexus 7 last year, and this year's little updates to make it all the more attractive vs. the mini. But I basically decided I don't really need a tablet, and would rather have none than use android. I usually roll my eyes at those who exclaim how overpriced apple products are. Look at any of the sleek windows ultrabooks vs. the air will show very similar pricing. Same with 10" tablets. But the mini is grossly overpriced vs. the nexus. sigh. Re: iPad mini with Retina display coming, but may be delayed - RAMd®d - 10-02-2013 It took three generations for the iPad and iPhone to go Retina, so I'm a little surprised that everybody *expects* a Retina miniPad this soon. Especially considering Apple's announcement of a Retina miniPad. I don't see an *actual* problem here. So many click-baiters make any and every rumor the bellwether for Apple circling the drain. At every Apple Event announcement, I hope for a Mac mini and a miniPad. Eventually, they'll get here when they get here. If there's this much hand-wringing now, I wonder what people and Street People will do if Apple has an *actual* bad quarter. Re: iPad mini with Retina display coming, but may be delayed - anonymouse1 - 10-02-2013 Battery life is issue, IIRC. Technology was not mature enough for large scale retina displays until about 2010. How many retina devices were there prior to iPhone 4? The technology to implement on a mass scale has been around for about 4 years. It's used in devices and screen sizes ranging from 4" phones to 15" laptops. The reason people are expecting it is not because the iPad mini hasn't yet hit the 3 generation threshold, the reason they're expecting it is because it's a 4 year old technology that's continuing to mature and benefit from economy of scale, and competitors have been able to figure out how to bring similar sized and spec'ed tablets to market. Of course Apple should not bring a half baked product to market, but for all the resources available to the company, I don't find the expectation of a retina iPad mini out of line, considering I can buy a retina Nexus 7 today for a third less money. This is why I expect a Retina Mini soon and will plunk down my $ when Apple announces it.
