favorite flashlight app? - davemchine - 10-06-2013 I've been using a flashlight app for years and I like it. Unfortunately it was a casualty of IOS7. So I'm looking for a new one and thought I would seek recommendations since there are thousands on the app store. Normally I like using the screen as soft flashlight and only use the led if necessary. Recommendations? Re: favorite flashlight app? - deckeda - 10-06-2013 I like the one built into iOS7 actually. Flick up the Control Center and hit the button. http://www.imore.com/how-use-your-iphone-flashlight-ios-7 Re: favorite flashlight app? - davemchine - 10-06-2013 That's cool and very handy. I'd like to find one that can also just light up the screen. Preferably non-free so I can skip the advertisements. Re: favorite flashlight app? - davemchine - 10-06-2013 Ok, I know I'm being crazy about the flashlight but hey, I like what I like. I found my original flashlight app was made by ExactMagic https://itunes.apple.com/app/id284973604 but I also found it has not been reviewed since the spring. I'm guessing it has been abandoned. I did email them to find out. I did find what appears to be a nice flashlight app for 99 cents. I can do flashlight, fluorescent, neon, candle, lighter, etc etc. A lot for a little. So I'm going to run with it. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ihandy-flashlight-pro/id368502096?mt=8 Re: favorite flashlight app? - RAMd®d - 10-06-2013 I haven't seen any of those flashlight apps since the 'Phone began shipping with an LED. Older 'Phones would still need them, but are they available from the App Store? I had one on my 3GS, no ads, and you chose the color of the screen. And it did the SOS strobe thing, which I liked. It may have been called a lamp app. One of practices I really dislike about the Devs and the App Store is that some of these (and other apps) started out as ad free but included them in a subsequent update. Don't know if I still have it. All the apps that show up when I Spotllight flashlight are LED apps. Even though the iOS7 flashlight made them all second-tier, some of the interfaces were pretty cool. Re: favorite flashlight app? - ztirffritz - 10-06-2013 I had a nice onepppflashlight app that had a tethering feature hidden in it. Haven't used it in years since the led light was added. Huh. - RAMd®d - 10-06-2013 When you go to the ExactMagic site, there is no Flashlight app. It's been replaced and as the kids say-- disrespected by Flashlight XS. A very no frills, pedestrian flashlight app. The prior app is still available. Does it work in iOS7? It's still in the store. If you bought it once, can't you download it from Apple under Purchased? I like the second app you referenced. Re: favorite flashlight app? - davemchine - 10-06-2013 The original app from ExactMagic is the one that quit working once I installed IOS7. I tried deleting it and reinstalling but it still didn't work. So I checked the online comments at the itunes store and there have been no reviews since early spring which led me to think it has been abandoned. I also checked their website, like you, and found the no-frills version. It's ok but since I wanted one that lit up my screen it didn't work for me. The reason I like the screen light is because it is softer and less bright making it ideal for navigating the bedroom at night after my wife is asleep so I don't disturb her. Thanks for the followup RAMd®d. Re: favorite flashlight app? - RAMd®d - 10-06-2013 The reason I like the screen light is because it is softer and less bright making it ideal for navigating the bedroom at night Agreed. At some point I may sit down and sift through several hundred apps to see if the one I had early on is still on the Mac. I'm not even sure it was principally a flashlight app. And given the naming convention of app names sometimes being only approximately similar to the name you see in your App listings, even if it's still there, I may never see it. Not to mention it may not work with 7 anyway. Maybe I'll cobble something together. A series of jpegs of solid colors in Photos with the light adjusted by the Control Center slider would work. Far from elegant, but functional. With the CC flashlight, I don't imagine there will be much further development in the flashlight app universe. Re: favorite flashlight app? - Zoidberg - 10-06-2013 The reason I like the screen light is because it is softer and less bright making it ideal for navigating the bedroom at night I used to do this just by opening a new message in Mail. |
