Just sold all my AAPL - stephen - 10-15-2013 ...very temporarily. I'd like to skip any roller coasters this week and I'll rebuy when we seem to be stable on the D.C. front. I'm willing to give up a few gains for a little safety this week. Considering I bought at 35 and sold at 496, I think it's okay to skip a week or two. Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered, as they say. I would probably turn my 401k mutual funds into money market, too, but it seems like trades there don't take place instantly, and that makes me nervous. Re: Just sold all my AAPL - OWC Jamie - 10-15-2013 I would have taken them off your hands for $35.50. Just sayin'. Re: Just sold all my AAPL - stephen - 10-15-2013 497.89 was the final price. Works for me. Back in it shortly.... Re: Just sold all my AAPL - rgG - 10-15-2013 Is this in an IRA? If not, then the IRS will be wanting their long term capital gains next April, but I am sure you knew that anyway, That is why trading inside an IRA is so nice. No nasty tax consequences until you take the money out of the IRA. Re: Just sold all my AAPL - C(-)ris - 10-15-2013 Why is this next week or two supposed to be turbulent to Apple stock? Re: Just sold all my AAPL - samintx - 10-15-2013 I bought at 30 but sell stock earlier to recover "cost" so the balance is all profit (or loss) At the time it was in an Edward Jones account and the broker was skeptical of the apple and didn't like holding it in the portfolio. So much for brokers. Re: Just sold all my AAPL - stephen - 10-15-2013 Yes, it's inside an IRA. Re: Just sold all my AAPL - freeradical - 10-15-2013 C(-)ris wrote: That's a good question. So far, the events in D.C. have been a big yawner for the markets. The uncertainty in the equity markets was probably discounted for long ago. When the thundering herd decides to act, it's usually too late. In fact, professionals view the behavior of the crowd as a contrarian indicator. When stephan decides to sell, they buy. Re: Just sold all my AAPL - hal - 10-15-2013 If stuff hits the fan, things can change really fast... Re: Just sold all my AAPL - RAMd®d - 10-15-2013 So one sells stock to avoid upheaval, and then expects to buy back at what, lesser cost? Because? Does the "settling" result in cheaper stock? Is that's what's expected? When Apple announces a new product, their stock generally drops and rises back up a day or two later. In my naiveté, I hope that this is in part somebody anticipating this long standing cycle. Is this expected to happen here? |
