Anyone got a good app for quickly trimming mpeg files? - Chakravartin - 10-16-2013

Got a recommendation for a good app for quickly and easily trimming mpeg files?

The current QT Player isn't precise enough. I'd like to cut at specific frames. Looking for something simple to cut out stuff not just at the beginning and end, but also in the middle.

Don't want to spend a lot of time and effort - or money - on this.

Okay this Pee Cee won't let me play nice but I use a Countour Design Shuttle pro and QT 7

QT7 would do the job, except that it refuses to open these files.

How about SimpleMovieX?
"Most popular file formats mov, mpeg, avi and iPod mp4, are natively supported: you can edit and save them in a breeze without loss of quality."

"Demo version has the same feature set as full working version, except slower saving and limited number of chapter markers. There is no time limitation."

Have you tried MPEG Streamclip?

Thanks, both of you. Seemed like good suggestions, but neither worked.

Looked good in the description. Seems to be total cr@p in practice.

Truncates the video when it opens it, which is only about 25% of the time. The rest of the time it pops up an ad for "Treasured" which claims to be a freeware diagnostic and repair tool, but finds something wrong with every file that it touches and demands money to fix it.

First thing I tried. It refuses to open these h264 files.

Gonna have to lay off for the night. 'Got work in the morning...

So far the only half-decent workflow that I've found is to transcode to MPEG2 in a QT wrapper so that I can make my edits in QT7.

Are there no commands in ffmpeg to make edits through the Terminal?

plain old iMovie?
Not the fastest but should get he job done.

Also iFunia Video Convertor will let you edit. You may end up with a few segments that you can then merge and output.

Agree. iMovie HD (6) will do what you want, and it still works in ML. Use QT to get them into a format that it can use.
