Aug. 26, 2032: we're all doomed - tronnei - 10-18-2013 Asteroid might destroy all life on Earth that day: http://www.startribune.com/nation/228250591.html Re: Aug. 26, 2032: we're all doomed - gabester - 10-18-2013 A lot can happen in 19 years... if, in another 5 years it looks increasingly likely and no global agreement has been reached on climate change then we've got two scenarios: 1) World governments decide to do nothing and let the asteroid hit because it can't be any worse than the impending climate apocalypse and at least it's NOT OUR FAULT. 2) Kickstarter crowdfunds an "Armageddon"-style expedition to stop it. Heck, there are enough billionaires now that they alone could decide to fund something like this to save themselves and everyone else along with them. 3) At least the unix clock rollover issue won't matter... Re: Aug. 26, 2032: we're all doomed - Acer - 10-18-2013 The force of 2.5 megatons of TNT does not seem like all that much, at least on a global scale. NIMBY. Re: Aug. 26, 2032: we're all doomed - cbelt3 - 10-18-2013 NASA notes that there is, at this moment, a 0.002 % chance of a collision. More will be known about the orbit as it is studied. However, feel free to begin digging the bunker. Pick a tectonically stable area, go at least 1,000 feet down, and be sure to equip with materials to allow you and yours to survive for at least 10 -500 years until the dust settles and the magma stops oozing.
