Very, very funny.
The Newhart original put America on the floor. But you can only do that once, so they took the gag and ran with it...nice.

I think it is too long and kind of beat the life out of the joke. Brevity is the soul of wit.

But for those of us who have NOT watched Malcolm, this length was useful to establish the character.

And that's true too. Malcolm was a fun show. Brian Cranston and Jane Kaczmerek milked it for all they could comedically.
