OT, JB, YA: Scuffed patent leather shoes - DP - 11-25-2013

I know, I could google it, but it's more fun to post on this august forum! I have a pair of Bally patent leather shoes bought in 1989 for a wedding where I was was the best man ( I thought I'd use them more often than I did, but that's a whole other story). I hadn't worn them since until a year ago when I dusted them off for a formal affair and we decided to take some dance lessons so we could comport ourselves somewhat properly. But we have continued the dance lessons and the same ball is coming up again in January-the Strauss Ball put on by the Austrian Society of Michigan and it is a big deal.
Anyway, I have scuffed up these shoes pretty good and I have buffed them with the soft cloth that originally came with the shoes but the scuffs are showing. Do I polish them or have a pro clean 'em up?

Have you tried a Mr. Clean magic eraser on them?

Here are some other suggestions

Don't think I need a lawyer but you never know...
This looks good to try:

I used Windex or the sadly discontinued Klean-n-Shine silicone cleaner on mine back in my Navy days.

No, that's not what I was talking about! Not at all! Not one bit!

That is KLEEN N SHINE.

Maybe that will help, I don't know, but I was *obviously* referring to KLEAN N SHINE.

I don't know how much clearer I can make it.

Geez.

KLEAN N SHINE was a spray foam. After it came out of the can, it would expand for a good 10-15 seconds, and emit a fragrance I always associated with an office I used to work in where it was used to extreme once a week by a cleaning person. Or, perhaps a KLEANING person.
