SMTP Log Shenanigans - Possible? - IronMac - 11-25-2013

Ok, am really curious as to whether or not the following story holds up in the technical sense:.

You have an IT person and an HR person at a multinational company. The MNC puts up a job notice and the emails start rolling in. The HR manager deletes all emails from a certain nationality. They then bribe the IT person to delete any record of the HR manager receiving those emails.

You suspect that something is going on so you keep a log file disguised as a system file that is sent to another server. You are then able to find out what happened by looking for discrepancies.

So, is the above possible?

Possible. But good luck getting a rogue log copy job past the paranoid system admin. If he is getting paid to cover the tracks he is going to monitor that server like a hawk.

In a lawsuit you are going to need the mail logs from the servers of the people SENDing in the applications that show a successful relay of the message.

Is this for a story you are writing? It sounds like an awesome set piece for suspense.

LOL Silvarios. No. Just another saga in Singapore regarding tension between citizens and immigrants.

Thanks C(-)ris for your input.
